young sensei
Sitting in the FYP lab. Looking through the window just in front of me. That big, long glass window. I am amazed by what is going on next door. It is the Applied Science school chemistry lab.The students are using cool-looking syringes to syringe out liquid into little bottles and then placing them in this machine that's attached to a printer. I guess with a few push of the buttons, they will get their printout on the components of the liquid. Just like what you see in CSI. When they want to find out the chemical components of a certain substance. This is so so cool.
Then I see their lecturer. Oh my...she looks so young. Like us. Previously when I looked through, I saw her giving a presentation to the class. I thought she was just another student presenting her project findings or something. Then Weiqi told me she looks like their lecturer. What education specifications does one need for applying for a post as a lecturer?
Let's say a degree. So say she's fresh out of university. She'll be around 23-25 years old. Young...very young.
I think at 23-25 years old, I won't be able to teach some professional stuff...say a subject in polytechnic. I can probably teach you how to be a professional slacker.

j-craze
*phew* The J-concert screening today went ok. Though there was a small hiccup with Amelia's cd. But somehow I still think the screening wasn't up to my standard.To please everyone, we could only play a few tracks from each concert. So we ended up with 6 songs from Hikki's "Live in Budokan", 4 from Tackey & Tsubasa's and a few mtvs. Being a huge Jpop fan, I would have liked to watch the whole concert from each artiste.
But of course, there isn't a big enough craze of Jpop or Jrock in Singapore. So the audience for our screening were *sad to say* only our JCG members. I think to date, only the "Moon Child" screening was good since the audience consisted of other students other than JCG members. Well...not sure about the anime screenings since I haven't gone to any.
Ah...still remember watching "Johnny's Junior Sugao 3" with Per. Those days...so fun. 2 crazy girls laughing at the funny commentaries and exclaiming whoever's name when that person came into view on the tv screen. Yes yes...her beloved Yuki Kohara.
Pity there aren't many people to share my craziness in Jpop.
Hey...Berryz Koubou songs are quite cute and nice. That was just a random comment.

until
I've seen this advertisement a few times in US girl magazines. I do admit that my decision is partly based on their use of an idol to advertise. But I also think that it's rather cool to own one of the bracelets. If only Singapore had this instead of crummy red ribbons. Can't they be more creative? Anti-drugs: green and white ribbon. Cancer: pink ribbon. Aids: red ribbon. One word. BORING. And in case you don't know what I'm talking about *I'm pretty sure you don't*, this is the advertisement I'm talking about.
Until There's A Cure foundation raises money for HIV/AIDS care services, education and vaccine development in the US. They are selling 3 types of bracelets to raise funds. There's the cuff bracelet, jelly bracelet, sterling and leather bracelet. In their words...
"The Bracelet...
Wear it in memory of those who have fought the war called AIDS.
Wear it as a reminder of those who today continue this fight.
Wear it in support of vaccine development that will stop HIV infection.
Wear it Until There's A Cure!"
Ok...so the point is, I'm going to order 2 bracelets. One for Sis and one for me. I have emailed them to check on the shipping cost. They have replied to say that one to 4 jelly bracelets, the shipping cost is US$7. Just asking if anyone is interested to buy one so we can save shipping cost.
You might like to check out the price and other stuff at their website. The bracelet isn't cheap I know but if the money goes to something worth it, I really don't mind.

elisia the procrastinator
Ah...procrastinating again.I feel better today than yesterday. Fell sick on Monday. Anyway, got up earlier to go to the library. I needed some reference books on how to work the templates feature in Dreamweaver. Feel so lost using it. It's supposed to be a programme so easy to use yet I find it difficult.
I hate to admit it but I'm kinda lost. So the design is done in Fireworks. Waiting to be transferred to Dreamweaver. What next? Do I slice up the whole site? Or just the banner portion? I wish things were more clear-cut. Like a whole set of instructions in front of me so I know what to do. I'm very good at that.
Back from the library with 3 books in tow. Couldn't resist finishing the novel I was at. Finished it. Started looking through the books I borrowed. Fell asleep while reading. It always happens especially when I have a nagging thought or something I don't want to do. Coz sleep is the only way to escape reality.
Yesterday was worse. Feeling tired all over. Since I took medication in the morning, it made me sleep till 3pm. After which, I wasn't bothered to do something and ended up watching "A Cinderella Story".
I told you. Don't think I'm some hardworking student coz I ain't one.

problem still not solved
I made a discovery today. But that makes me all the more confused. So I decided to test whether it was my router or computer that was giving the problem. Smart girl decided to use the free modem to test. Plugged in the modem...installed and followed the instructions...tadaa! I was able to use the net.Unplugged the router's cable to test. Still able to use the net. So...conclusion, it's something to do with the router.
Smart aleck me decided to plug in the modem for myself and Sis can use the router. Final test. On both. Uh-oh. *smacks forehead* How could I forget such a simple thing? I can't use both at the same time with just one line. Back to square one.
Oh...and when I use the internet for some time, suddenly I get this error message about "Generic Host Services for Win32". Whatever that is. But it screws up my sound devices coz everytime I try to play music, it tells me to check my configurations and to install the necessary drivers properly. So...my computer is having problem too?
This technology stuff is giving me a headache.

movie marathon
Yea...diaryland's back.I'm going to get my new specs soon. Not sure if they are ok since nobody accompanied me to the optician. I dislike the fact that I'm almost "cheh meh" (hokkien for "blind"). I can't even admire how the specs look without having to peer so closely to the mirror.
Caught "Meet The Fockers" with Pwen and Jo this morning. NC-16...now I know why. So many sexual references. But the movie was rather hilarious. And the baby's so cute.
Today was like some sort of movie marathon for me or something. After "Meet The Fockers", I watched "Elektra" with Sis. Somehow I think the movie lacks a bit of something. Effects were cool and all. Sis kept mentioning that if only she had Jennifer Garner's toned body. I think the "lady death" was cool. Walking through the forest, everything just dying with a single touch from her.

ten marks
Term test over. Woohoo! Only one paper so what do you expect.Manz...the paper was rather easy. But here's the catch, I lost at least 10 marks I think. There goes the "A". *sees it flying away* I didn't pay full attention to EchoServer class. All I remembered was there is ServerSocket, cli *which was the damn Socket* and es.accept(). Who knew that cli = es.accept(); I just wrote some bullshit so as not to leave the question blank. Which came out as...
ServerSocket es = null;
Socket cli = null;
BufferedReader in = null;
es = new ServerSocket();
in = new BufferedReader(new inputStream (cli.getInputStream()));
es.accept(in);
*etc etc*
Yes...laugh all you want now but that was the bullshit I came up with. I told you I only remembered 3 things and you do see them appear in that answer just not correct that's all. Haha...
Then there's the question of choosing unicast-based or multicast-based for the video conferencing senario. I remembered it to be similar to the question in tutorial but then again, there wasn't an option for the answer. It definitely couldn't be unicast. I remembered Mr Sankara laughing and explaining that multicast could not be used for the tutorial question. Anyway, my gut feeling told me to write this.
"I would use unicast-based. More specifically multi-unicast."
And after that people said they wrote multicast. Me and my wonderful gut feeling. Just shoot me now.

slayer rules
I think I might change my layout soon.
I got this yesterday and now I'm 89 bucks poorer. But heh hey...I'm one step closer to getting the full 7 seasons of Buffy on DVD.
I really shouldn't have waited. Now the Buffy calendar is out of stock (I think) in HMV.

migratory bird
Here's the update on the S.H.E concert you guys been waiting for.*whispers to myself* Sometimes I feel I'm talking to someone but in actual fact I'm like talking to myself. *shrugs* There's bound to be someone reading right? Even if no one reads, never mind.
Saturday...went to Yingwei's house to celebrate Paige's birthday. She's really very cute. :)
Rushed back home to find that I had a little "accident" which made me rather irritated since I was already quite late back home and in a few minutes time, Per would be arriving to go to the S.H.E concert together. Her mum got tickets. Mine was bought the second day of sale. Although we were sitting apart, we decided to go together.
And Raynor, thanks for your singing of "波斯猫" when I told you guys that I couldn't join you all for coffee coz I was going to the concert. Haha...coincidentally, that was the first song S.H.E sang at the concert.
To my surprise, there was no special guest. They sang 2 songs from their new album. "候鸟" and "痛快". For "候鸟", they sat on this dolphin structure which was raised. I noticed that Hebe was kinda stiff and gripping the sides tightly. Was wondering if she was afraid of heights. Anyway, I was right since later Ella announced that Hebe was afraid of heights. Ella was really cute, teasing the crowd and saying stuff that really got us laughing.
I really enjoyed the concert. Per and I agreed that Hebe's costumes were really nice. I liked her skirts. Although they were the poofy kind, they were tastefully matched with nice tops. And I think long hair suits her best.
Of course I managed to take some photos but they are a little small. I shall get my photo album running soon then post up a few photos. Tip: If you want your camera to get past security, put it under your jacket or in another compartment. They don't do a complete check so it's quite easy to get past them.
Sunday...I got to go to the Renci charity show. Per got tickets!!! Thanks Per!!! If you hear someone shouting Zhang Zhicheng's name...ermz...that's Per...and later me helping her shout as well. Oopz :X
Hehe...managed to sneak in my camera as well. We were sitting so high up so yea. Plus when I wanted to take a photo or clip, Per would move closer to me to block. Sneaky sneaky...
Was hoping S.H.E would sing "候鸟" but they didn't. Perhaps it was inappropriate since that song is towards the sad side.
Talking about "候鸟". I love the song a lot. It's a sad but nice song. I read somewhere that the song is about Ella's ex-boyfriend. I like the line "变成我记忆里的明信片". It's just got this impact. Like everything you once shared just become postcards which in other words just becomes part of your memory.
Then these lines which are part of the chorus. "我含泪,面向着北边" and "你往北,向南说再见". If I interpreted them correctly, the girl looks toward the north, holding back her tears. I presume she's looking at the guy walking away since the second line says that the guy walks north, saying goodbye to the south. And I think it means the guy leaves without turning back since if he's walking north, what else could be facing south but his back?

fossil watch
[edited at 10.27pm]I got the new S.H.E mtv vcd. *smiles from ear to ear* Alright alright...I will talk about the concert soon. Once I get my thoughts focused, get to sit down and blog away without disturbance.
At least that's something good today since 2 people made me roll my eyes a lot. And dear Pwen said it isn't healthy to keep rolling my eyes. So I wish people would stop getting on my nerves. Haha...
[edited]
Ok...was going to start blogging on what happened the last few days. Describe my experience at the concert etc. Then I got distracted by an email from Fossil showcasing their new watches. Omg...I like this one. The one with the pink dial isn't bad either. Itching to get it...but I just got my current Fossil watch just last year.
Can't get my thoughts focused at the moment. Shall update again.

i hate interviews
OMG. Tomorrow's the interview assignment. Please don't let me blabber away like an idiot. Please don't let them ask difficult to tackle questions. You know I can't think fast on the spot. Please don't let me panic. Please don't let it seem like some grilling session. Please let the examiners be like some nice friendly HR people.And I haven't prepared for it yet. Die lahz... Don't give me a B also never mind. At least can pass...I'll be damn happy.
I feel sure that I'm not going to go into the IT line despite taking up an IT-related diploma. I don't even know what I'm good at. I just want to quickly get out of school and sit for SATs. That's my plan for 2005.

concert and work
I enjoyed myself at the S.H.E concert...singing along to the songs, cheering etc. Despite technical faults 3 times. More later. Too tired to give a full length updateJosephine Tan emailed back to say that our design is not approved as it is too kiddy and not impressive. Saw that coming anyway. I think she's rather patient with our group already. I was expecting her to blow her top when we met her in week 3. Now week 5 and still no decent design.
I won't be surprised if she gives us a good shelling. We deserve to get one anyway...or at least I think I deserve to get one. So now each one of us is to come up with 3 designs and get back to her.

blog is one year old
[edited at 4.12pm]Lesson learnt: never think you have enough time even if it seems you have.
I just skipped ENMM lab to finish the report. Great...just great. Just pelt me with rocks now.
[edited]
Rushing to finish my report. Thank goodness I have class at 3pm and the report is due at 5pm which buys me some time to complete it.
Left 2 parts to complete which isn't so bad but have to double check with my other group members. I mean, even if you need to crap, you need to be on the right track as well.
Oh ya...my blog is officially one year old. Check out the archives if you don't believe. Don't confuse yourself with the domain. I still use diaryland for blogging.

keeping the silence
Shall sneak an entry in even though I'm feeling rather tired at this hour.It's the thoughts after watching the news. I keep saying this over and over again and it's so true. News just gets more and more depressing.
In UK, people observed a 3 minute silence for those who lost their lives in the tsunami disaster. Flags flew at half-mast. It was this shot of a street. People just stopped dead in their tracks. Saw this guy get out of his car on the road. All for people they don't even know.
I felt so touched by that scene. Wanted to cry. If people from the other side of the world could do this, why couldn't Singapore just do something like this as well. Being a close neighbour of all the countries that got hit badly.
Sis was telling me that people at the stadium watching the Tiger Cup match, it was supposed to be like this. Before the match, everyone had to observe 1 minute of silence. But the fans just couldn't shut up so in the end the referee got confused and just started the match. I'm appalled by their behaviour.
Wait until your loved one is taken cruelly away from you. See whether you can still complain that a damn blardee match isn't starting.
Then there was another scene taken from a helicoptor. Circling the area hit by the tsunami. Mum just commented that the area looked so quiet. I was just overwhelmed with emotion and replied "coz there's nothing left. All you see is just flattened land. Really NOTHING."

templates and tutorials
[edited at 6.05pm]I can't stand inconsiderate people. There's this group of malay guys 2 rows behind me. They make helluva lot of noise. Gawd...do you need to shout at each other when you're that close to your friend. If not it's music blast to the max. Do people know what are earphones or headphones for?

Still can't find that rubber thingy for my handphone. Argh...just bugs me a lot.
Sitting here in the FYP lab. Multi-tasking. Checking out how to use the templates feature in Dreamweaver 2004MX. I still think hand-coding is better. Used to it since Nad got me started. Wah...can say she's my teacher liaoz. Although the codes aren't *whoa* impressive, at least things get done. Whereas I got to experiment with this to get started.
Waiting for Weiqi to pass me the raw files so I can go experiment. In the meantime, reading tutorials and explanations.
Mum finally got her Samsung E600C. Some more got free umbrella and organiser. So hao lian lorz.
-_-||| Haha. She got it from the Samsung shop instead of joining the queue at Singtel Hello! shop. Same prices.

fretting at the littlest things
Oh no. I can't find that little rubber thingy to plug back into the hole under the handphone where I fix the wire to charge it. And this is killing me.I fret at the littlest things but yea, it looks so ugly. This...argh...hole. Feels like if I try sticking my finger in, I'm going to get electrocuted.
Anyway, yesterday Ling sent me this cute message to say that the clinic she visited in Marine Parade, the doctor's name was "Elisia". Exact same spelling. Cool. But on the other hand, if I discover more and more people with that name, exact spelling and all, I feel kinda like less unique.

resolution making
Ah noooooo...back to school. There's a deadline staring right back at our faces already. The interim report for FYP which is due this Friday. Good for those kancheong groups who have gone full steam ahead. As for groups *like mine* who haven't exactly got cracking with it...alleluia.You! *wags finger at TP lecturers* Evil beings. You sure know that majority of us haven't got started right? So you're giving us this HUGE push. Thanks a lot huh.
Talking about a new year, at 2005. Making resolutions. Ah...I don't believe in bullshit. Resolutions are made to be broken. Somehow. I'm realistic, I don't make any. I'm still the same ol' slacker me. I take things as they come along.

2005 rolls in
Happy New Year, my friends!As I look back, 2004 has been a year of much thought and grieving. With people still coming to terms with the tsunami disaster, it has yet to subside and come to an end. I really hope that 2005 is a much better year. One filled with more hope. Not to mention more fun.
As usual, yesterday was spent with family and friends. Family coz it was my sister's birthday. Had dinner at Sheraton Towers. Also where we saw Qi Yuwu (715) having a quiet dinner with his friend as well. Note: He looks like he lost weight since "The Champion" and he isn't very tall. Just of average height for a guy.
After dinner, went to Pwen's workplace, Gelare at Siglap. Nad and JW soon joined us. We were supposed to hang around and also wait for Pwen to finish work before heading to my place to stayover.
Manz...they really took an awfully long time to clear up and close for the day. Waited like 2 1/2 hours.
Per joined us later at my house. And it was vcd watching time. Per picked out "Kindaichi" which the rest agreed to watch. *hehe...I watched it before so I knew the ending but I didn't mind watching it again since I love Kindaichi mysteries.* After that, Per wanted to watch the Johnny's Sports Event 2000. Apparently she wanted to watch the part where Matsuoka of Tokio did this samba thing. But she got mixed up since it wasn't in the year 2000 Johnny's Sports Event.
Time to sleep...zzzz...
Pwen left around 10+am. After roti prata lunch, Nad and JW rushed to TM to catch a movie. Left Per. Happily watching "Addams Family" on tv. Which she loved the part where Wednesday Addams asked if the girl scout cookies were made of real girl scouts since the little girl scout was being kinda irritating asking Wednesday if the lemonade she was selling were made of real lemons.
Hmmm...maybe should scare some kids next time huh... I don't think they go around door-to-door selling girl scout cookies here but if they do, should try it on them. Haha...
And now I'm awfully tired. Shall go to sleep early tonight. :)
