english

Took this rather interesting quiz from Ling's blog. Here are my results. I swear I did not get help from the dictionary, dictionary.com or anybody.

Very Literate *blah ah...you expect me to be illiterate?!*

You scored 81% Beginner, 6% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 83% Expert!

You have a very good understanding of beginner, advanced, and expert level commonly confused English words, getting at least 75% of each of these three level's questions correct. You didn't get as many of the intermediate level questions correct, but don't fret. This is a good score. Remember, these are commonly confused English words, which means most people don't use them properly anyway. You got a very respectable score.

So go on, take the Commonly Confused Words test.

I need to be around Per and Pwen more. They are great influence when it comes to the English language. I never knew what "altruism" and "anality" meant until Per mentioned. Haha...I need good influence so I might get a higher score when it comes to sitting for the SAT.

Was mentioning to 7ners yesterday about what Mr Lee Leong said about SATs. He said you'll need about 3 months to prepare for it. You mean you are going to mug for it? Ok, the Maths part, you'll probably need to revise a little. But the English part...no way. It's an either you know or you don't kinda thing. If you want to mug for it then you might have to memorise the dictionary. But then again, he might be trying to say that you need 3 months so as to familiarise with the format of the paper and stuff. Fair enough.

jo the birthday girl

Firstly, a very happy birthday to Jo. The first 7ner to hit the big 2-0.

Yesterday, watched "Howl's Moving Castle" with Sis and Desmond. My third Studio Ghibli movie. I enjoyed it a lot. I love Studio Ghibli movies. There's this out-of-this-world feeling, a fantasy-like touch to the movies. The music is also great. You guys should go catch it. Especially Mr D and Per. The former being a Studio Ghibli fan and the latter being a everything Japanese fan. : )

But I'll rate "Howl's Moving Castle" as second-best after "Spirited Away". "Spirited Away" still rocks!

Today, met up with 7ners to celebrate Jo's birthday. Went to Phin's Steakhouse at Bugis. It was really fun meeting up with them again. Coz there'll be the usual round of jokes and gossip. Haha...

needs and wants

ENMM lab. Working on the video conferencing program again. Haha...rather fun. Wonder if the program can work at home. Haven't tried it yet.

TP should put a machine to top up EZlink cards on the school campus. That would save a lot of students from the hassle of going to the interchange to top up their cards. It would have saved me from my embarassing situation just now.

I forgot that my EZlink card needed to be topped up. Got on the bus. Tap card. Impatient beeping from machine. Oh no...realised I have no coins as well. Sheepishly told the bus driver that I didn't have spare change. Luckily he was nice enough to just wave his hand indicating that it's ok. Thus, my short journey to school was free.

So you see...just like the government takes our money and uses it for unnecessary stuff, TP does the same. Recently they put an AXS machine just outside IT school. For what? The main use of it is only for people to top up their cashcards and buy movie tickets. It is not a need but more of a want. Whereas a machine to top up EZlink cards is essential coz almost all students take the bus to school everyday.

friend or no friend

What if you knew that you (and 2 other group members) had to sleep at 4am just to work on the project and someone else in your group was sleeping soundly? Would you feel like failing that person so he had to stay back one semester just to finish FYP?

Manz...I don't care. If there's peer evaluation, I'm going to shoot him down. Friend or no friend. You can hate me for the rest of your life but I don't give a freakin' damn about it. Simply coz YOU DESERVE IT.

Went to see the doctor today. Actually I didn't want to go since I'm not sick until like I'm going to drop dead any moment. But Mum made me. I just have a lot of phlegm that's all...and a cough.

i love singapore

Freakin' hell. I failed my pft. I'm so darn unhealthy. I failed the standing broad jump and 2.4km jog/run components.

*thinks* Which means about 1/3 of the people who took their pft on that day failed. Coz I got position 179 for the 2.4km jog/run. The total number of people who took the test was about 220 people.

*thinks some more* Gosh...I shouldn't have tried until my muscles hurt so much since I was going to fail anyway. Stupid.

I finally gave up using my wireless mouse. The batteries died once again on me yesterday and I couldn't find new ones. Don't you expect me to use the tab key ok. Anyway, I have a spare wired mouse...got it free from buying my mp3 player.

*hums the national anthem* Hey...stand up and sing the national anthem. Can't you see the national flag? No manners.

*salutes* Ahahahaha...I love my country too much. *kidding*

*SMMMMACCCCKKK* Haha...got you now you darn mosquito. Manz, I shall consider borrowing Per's electric mosquito bat. I'm also curious to see the mosquito getting charged/fried. Mehehehehe... *evil grinz*

suay ah

Met up with 7ners today. Had lunch at Eastpoint's Sakura. Shall not go into details.

I'm feeling rather suay *which means "unlucky" in hokkien* today. Not to the extent of crying but just a tad miserable.

Firstly, my muscles ache a lot and now I have trouble doing 4 simple things.

  1. Walking up and down stairs
  2. Sitting down and getting up from a chair
  3. Bending down to get something
  4. Walking fast or running

Secondly, my sore throat is gone but a blocked/half-runny nose has taken it's place. And I think I had a slight fever this afternoon. Also developing phlegm.

Thirdly, I kicked the curb, lost my balance and fell while on my way to the MRT station. Luckily the grass was dry and not muddy. Thankfully, I was wearing jeans so I didn't scrape my knee.

aches and pains

Having trouble walking up and down stairs. Walking like a slowpoke. The result of Saturday morning's physical fitness test. After a few years of no exercise, yea...my results for each station actually went down by some.

Especially shuttle run. I got an 11.9 timing. I used to get about 10.something or 11.0. I also kinda almost slipped while fetching the first block. Bleargh. Whatever.

And now, my thigh muscles ache a lot.

Oh...and I have a blardee sore throat. Feel like ripping my throat out.

PS: Did you guys see Mr Syed and his Heartbeat percussion on tv for Chingay? :)

PPS: Berryz Koubou's "Piriri to Yukou" is such a cute song. Oh ya, Ling, your pretty 10-year-old girl is in this group.

tp4u

Second day of TP's openhouse. Already been mistaken twice for a freshman. I'm a freakin year 3 student who will be graduating soon *if I get past ENMM and FYP*. I wanted to help out but knowing that I'm not the hardworking type when it comes to work, I will have problems juggling projects later on. So I passed the chance.

Anyway, yesterday I got my Seventeen magazine subscription renewed. Took the openhouse goodie bag to discover that TP is rather cheapo this year. No wonderful goodies. Handphone pouch, pen, some vouchers and lots of pamphlets regarding diploma courses. NO COOL STUFF. NO USEFUL STUFF.

Nad and JW visited today. Me, Jo, Nad and JW had lunch at design school. However I had to leave them soon after lunch as I have ENMM lab.

ENMM lab is rather exciting today. Transmitting video and video conferencing. I guess the main thing about Java is, when your programs work, they make you feel so happy and exicited. Else, you'll be so miserable and frustrated. Don't think there's an in-between feeling.

I have been rather slackish when it comes to FYP. 2 more weeks and I still haven't done my part of the php coding. Still working on the html part. Somehow I feel more confident with the html and css stuff. But we all know that's the easy stuff. Bleargh.

Grandparents left for home *Malaysia* this morning. At least I will feel more at ease when working late into the night in the study room now.

lonely hearts club

Happy Valentine's Day. If you do not have a date, fret not. Join the Lonely Hearts club. Haha...kidding.

For the 20th year of my life, I'm spending it with myself. No hot date lahz. Heh hey. But I got a flower this year. From Billy, Sis's friend. Coz we had lunch at Saffron (aka restaurant in TP, staff made up of TP's Hospitality students)...me, Sis, Aileen, Lorraine, Jac, Esther and Billy. They arranged to have a gift exchange as well. Billy being the only guy in our little group, the girls teased him to get gifts not only for one person but for all of us. Not sure if they meant it as a joke but he took it seriously and got each girl...this.

Closer up...

So sweet. And the flower's so cute!

Good news aside. Now for the bad news. Just as I stepped into business school, the strap of my slipper broke. Had to stand at the walkway to call Sis to come over. Haha...so paiseh if I hobble all the way to Saffron alone. Too bad it isn't in the evening when there's not many people, else I would have just ran barefooted.

Well, I did try walking barefoot down the steps to get to the taxi stand. However, being a hot day, the ground was too hot. So by the time I got to the bottom of the stairs, barefooted, my soles were burning.

bak kwa and kueh lapis

Finished the project phase 1 for ENMM. It isn't great but I don't freakin' care. I'm not about to fret and burst my braincells over it. Looking at it over and over again will not make me smarter or get me a distinction. I'm just being realistic. Anyway, can't blame anyone except myself when it comes to last minute work.

Reading blogs. Gosh...I just realised I haven't "dived" into the goodies on the coffee table. All I have eaten are cashew nut cookies, pineapple tarts, mini shrimp rolls, marble cake that tasted funny and pineapple sweets. And mind you, apart from the cashew nut cookies, the rest, I only had one or two of each. Where's my bak kwa and kueh lapis?

February 10, 2005 @ 11.00pm

phase one

I should be working on my ENMM project phase 1 which is due tomorrow. Crapz. But I'm not even started. I don't know how to start.

Good grief.

Back from my maternal grandparents' house. Had dinner there.

Oh no...I haven't started on the ENMM project.

新年快乐!恭喜恭喜!

Today's the first day of chinese new year. Some relatives just left my house. It's a yearly affair. Relatives come over to pay respects *since my paternal grandparents are staying with us when they come down from Malaysia*, exchange greetings *not to mention the ang pows*.

Just what goes on in my house? This...

Waiting for Mum to finish cooking lunch. After lunch, we'll be going to my maternal grandparents house.

excuse me

I think "excuse me" are 2 rather mis-used words. A polite way to catch someone's attention. However if over-used becomes mis-used.

After yesterday's unfortunate incident in the lift in TM, I officially obtained a cut at the back of my leg. The fold when you bend your knee. All thanks to a rather impatient aunty.

So I entered a crowded lift. At a certain floor, many people wanted to get out...including that aunty. I was standing near the door. This lady in front of me moved back to let people out from the right side. So naturally I had to move back as well, thus blocking the aunty behind me.

"Excuse me." *people still getting out from right side* "Excuse me. Excuse me." I was thinking to myself, "alright! I heard you. Can you be patient. It's not like you're going to get stuck in the lift forever."

*no more people getting out from right side* Lady in front and I both moved forward to let the aunty pass through. She could hardly wait. Just kinda "pushed" past. Whatever she was carrying, scraped my leg. Pain. Couldn't bend down to check so just felt that area. Oh...thought it just scraped some skin. Upon getting out of the lift, I bent down to check. Blood.

The aunty should be thankful that I wasn't in a foul mood. Else I would have cursed her.

It's really no point saying "excuse me" if you're going to be that impatient. *rolls eyes*

One more ugly cut. Already have one on my knuckle on my right hand. One that is healing in a rather ugly way. Argh.

brainless people

[edited at 11.24pm]

Good bargain. $29 from the usual $50. Eyeshadow, lipstick and nail polish. It's "Red Earth" by the way...in case you can't see.

I forgot to add this. Offer is up and running for gmail invites again. After the last notice of 10 invites, recently I took notice of the number of invites and got a shock. 50 invites in total. So yea...if you think you need one or you're dying to have one. Do contact me via whatever mode available.

Following up from my last post. I think the guys from that class have a reason for coming to school now. Haha...coz of their young and pretty tutor. Eye candy.

Things are starting to pick up a little. The deadline for FYP is soon. End of this month which leaves us with little time left.

Grandparents coming down from Malaysia today. I know it's kinda mean to think this way but their arrival is at a bad time. They'll be taking the study room which means we can't use the computers too late into the night. Bad time since there's lots to be done/rushed to meet deadlines. Oh well...at the most I will have to use the computers in school till 9pm everyday.

I realise I dislike people who are/act all brainless and stuff. People who think their jokes are so damn funny when they are not. Almost like talking without thinking. Now, they did say that empty vessels make the most noise didn't they? There's one such example in the FYP lab. He's in my CMSK4 class as well.

I think sometimes Ms Ng also tolerates him. Coz from the way she responds to his "wisecracks", you can sense that she's trying not to get all angry and exasperated.

The kind of people who make you roll your eyes non-stop.
